Who are we?

I obtained my PhD at the department of Human Genetics at the LUMC, where I investigated the molecular mechanisms involved in the removal of transcription-blocking DNA lesions. During my PhD research I wrote several articles and gave (poster) presentations. I noticed quickly that I not only enjoyed doing research, but that I also got a lot of pleasure out of making figures and processing data. The icing on the cake was when I could typeset my own dissertation and design the cover. I defended my dissertation in 2022 and received my doctorate with honors (cum laude).

After obtaining my doctorate, I worked as a postdoc in the United States for 2 years. During this time, it became clear to me that I regretted that I would never design a dissertation again. I decided to quit my job and move back to the Netherlands, where I founded MY dissertation designs together with my husband Maurice.

Maurice

As a physicist with a cum laude doctorate, I worked on abstract concepts in electron microscopy at Delft University of Technology and MIT. During my projects it became clear to me how important good communication of your findings is. However, to convey your story, this communication must consist of more than words. Clearly designed (schematic) representations of concepts and views are essential to convey your message to your colleagues and the larger audience. I have always enjoyed preparing and presenting oral/poster presentations at conferences, because it involves a mix of written, oral and visual communication. The best reward for these efforts is winning the poster prize at a major international conference in the United States.
